Social Studies
This year in Social Studies, we will cover the following units: Colonialism, Revolutionary War, the Constitution, Westward Expansion, and Civil War. We will also keep up-to-date with current events, and make connections between our past and present. We focus heavily on reading comprehension and writing skills. We also analyze primary sources, find and cite reliable sources, and promote digital citizenship.
English Language Arts
Students will be using the processes of writing to elaborate on writing prompts through and on demand writing process. They will also engage in lessons throughout the year involving grammar to solidify skills introduced in lower grades while being introduced to higher level concepts. Throughout the year, we will also be perfecting our spelling skills using the Rebecca Sitton spelling program. It is crucial that everyone comes prepared to class with all of their materials and a positive attitude so that they may get the most out of each lesson!
In reading students can expected to work on critical thinking skills through a myriad of approaches. They will also practice test taking strategies.
